Nielson Communications is a family-owned business with its roots firmly established in Sturgeon Bay under the company name of Bay Electronics. Bay Electronics originally served area shipyards and such customers as the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard with navigation and communication systems. Today the company continues to be involved in the marine electronic industry.

Seeing a need for cost-effective mobile communications, Nielson Communications was established by entering the Specialized Mobile Radio industry in 1989, with the first two systems going "on the air" in Door County and Green Bay. As of recently due to FCC mandates Nielson Communications has built out an entirely new UHF trunked radio system covering Northeast Wisconsin.
