About Data Radio
Dataradio is a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced wireless data products and systems for mission critical applications. Our products are found at the heart of mobile data as well as automation and control networks around the world. With nearly 20 years dedicated to wireless data technology and innovation, Dataradio is the source for private data-by-radio solutions.
Products
Our products include OEM, telemetry devices, analog radios, radio modems for fixed point to point and point to multi-point applications, and mobile data products. Our product line is one of the broadest in the industry covering the most often-used frequency bands. Our products and technologies are used by many industries in a variety of applications, many critical in nature.
Recently, Dataradio has developed a proprietary technology, Parallel Decode that can be used to enhance the quality, reliability and efficiency of wireless modems. This technology is available today in our GeminiPD and ParagonPD products.
Innovations
Since its inception in 1981, Dataradio has a history of success based on technology innovation.
- Reliable, Fast Radio Modem - Dataradio addressed the market's concern regarding the reliability of radio as a data transmission medium with its second-generation product in 1984. The DR 4800 operating at 4800 baud was the fastest error correcting radio modem for fixed wireless in the land mobile spectrum. Designed for the banking and airline industries, the radio modem made it possible to communicate reliably in areas where telephone lines were unreliable or non-existent.
- PC's for mobile data terminals - Dataradio entered the wireless mobile data market with a product we based on the evolutionary idea of using portable PC's for mobile data terminals. Software application providers could write programs for DOS and later Windows providing the same applications on the desktop as in the vehicle.
- Parallel Decode (PD) / Smart Combining Technique - In order to address the issues associated with mobile data, notably multi-path and delay spread, Dataradio introduced a proprietary technology called Parallel Decode or PD. Parallel Decode improves the modems ability to decode data thereby improving the operating range, throughput and response time. By using two receivers and two antennas along with a smart combining technique, Parallel Decode reduces the effects of multi-path fading and delay spread significantly improving mobile data performance.
- Smallest narrowband RF device - The new size imitates the footprint made popular by PC card devices. The module is a mere 2.83" x 1.75" x 0.45". That's smaller than a business card. Dataradio took advantage of the latest technology driven by the digital PCS industry, incorporating a SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) filter design to improve selectivity and minimize group delays meaning less interference and distortion to corrupt data transmissions.
Markets
Traditional users of private wireless networks are law enforcement, utilities, oil & gas production and distribution, transportation, freshwater and wastewater management, and factory automation. These users rely on private networks for the security, control, cost benefits and improved operating efficiencies they provide.
Customers
Our customers come from many different industries with very diverse requirements. They include public safety service providers, utilities, transport and oil and gas companies, military contractors and NASA. All demand reliable, dependable delivery of information that is critical to their operation. In some cases, they depend on it and Dataradio wireless data products and systems to save lives.
Strategic Partners
Dataradio recognizes that our customers do not base their purchasing decisions solely on hardware, rather they purchase a complete solution that is comprised of hardware and software to provide the desired result. Dataradio has built enduring relationships with major participants in the wireless data industry. Strategic partnerships have been formed with key software providers, system integrators, complimentary hardware manufacturers and OEMs.
