Question 1

How do I eliminate two-way radio "dead zones" in a large Wisconsin manufacturing facility?

Accepted Answer

To eliminate dead zones, NCI provides on-site RF signal testing to identify the exact cause of interference. Depending on your facility’s layout, we implement custom-engineered solutions ranging from high-gain antennas and base stations to digital repeaters and SignalMax boosters. Our “good, better, best” approach ensures an economical solution tailored to Wisconsin’s specific industrial environments.

Question 2

What is the most reliable way to reduce production downtime using industrial communication systems?

Accepted Answer

The most reliable way to reduce downtime is by implementing instant, one-touch group communication. Two-way radios eliminate the time wasted by staff searching for personnel on the production floor. By enabling immediate coordination between maintenance, logistics, and management, industrial radio systems increase productivity and ensure fast-paced manufacturing demands are met without delay.

Question 3

What are the current FCC licensing requirements for municipal two-way radio systems in Wisconsin?

Accepted Answer

Wisconsin municipal systems must be licensed under FCC Part 90 rules. Requirements include obtaining an FCC Registration Number (FRN), completing technical frequency coordination to prevent interference, and filing specific applications. Because navigating federal regulations and deadlines is complex, NCI manages the entire licensing, coordination, and renewal process for local government agencies to ensure total compliance.

Question 4

Can digital radio systems bridge the communication gap between rural and urban public safety departments?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Digital systems use IP-based networking and interoperability standards to link disparate geographic regions. Unlike analog, which fades into static, digital radios provide clear voice audio up to the very edge of the coverage footprint. This allows rural towers to connect seamlessly with centralized urban departments over wide-area networks, providing reliable, unified communication across Northern Wisconsin and the UP.

Question 5

Will a Kenwood, L3Harris, Tait, or BK Radio work on my county’s P25 radio system?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As long as your county utilizes a standard P25 network, radios from Kenwood, L3Harris, Tait, and BK are fully interoperable. The P25 (Project 25) standard was designed specifically to prevent vendor lock-in. This allows agencies to choose the best hardware for their budget while maintaining seamless, secure communication on existing Motorola or other P25-compliant systems.

Question 6

Why should Wisconsin businesses choose a local authorized dealer like Nielson Communications over online retailers?

Accepted Answer

Online retailers only ship boxes; Nielson Communications delivers custom-tailored solutions. Partnering with a local dealer provides local expertise tailored to Wisconsin’s unique terrain and RF challenges, full lifecycle support including FCC licensing, custom programming, vehicle upfitting, and local repairs, deep state-specific interoperability knowledge for networks like WISCOM, and reliable 24/7 local support from a family-owned business established in 1974.
